Indian travel platform ixigo has announced it is suspending all flight and hotel bookings to Turkey, Azerbaijan, and China in response to these countries’ statements backing Pakistan amid escalating tensions with India.

The move comes days after the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted military strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoJK). The operation followed a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that left 26 civilians dead.

“In solidarity with our nation, ixigo is suspending flight and hotel bookings for Turkey, Azerbaijan and China. Because when it comes to Bharat, we don’t think twice. Jai Hind,” the company said in a post on X.

CEO Aloke Bajpai also announced the suspension of services on his X handle, stating, “Enough is Enough! Blood and Bookings won’t flow together. We are suspending all flight and hotel bookings for Turkey,  China and Azerbaijan on ixigo.”

Statements backing Pakistan

In a statement posted on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye said, “We are following the developments between Pakistan and India with concern. The attack carried out by India last night (6 May) raises the risk of an all-out war. We condemn such provocative steps as well as attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. We urge the parties to act with restraint and refrain from unilateral actions. We hope that the necessary measures will be taken to reduce regional tensions as soon as possible and to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents, including in the field of counter-terrorism, and that the required mechanisms will be established. We support Pakistan’s call for an investigation into the terrorist attack that took place on April 22.”

Later, Azerbaijan also expressed concern and condemned the Indian strike, issuing a statement that read: “The Republic of Azerbaijan expresses its concern over the further escalation of tension between the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. We condemn military attacks against the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that killed and injured several civilians. Being in solidarity with the people of Pakistan, we express condolences to the families of the innocent victims and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.”

In a statement from its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China said, “China expresses regret over India’s military actions this morning and is concerned about the current developments. China opposes all forms of terrorism. We call on both India and Pakistan to prioritise peace and stability, remain calm and restrained, and avoid taking actions that further complicate the situation.”

“China finds India’s military operation early this morning regrettable… India and Pakistan are and will always be each other’s neighbours. They’re both China’s neighbours as well,” they noted.
