This ISB funded startup is making overseas healthcare jobs accessible for India’s skilled nurse

As developed nations face significant labour shortages, driven by ageing populations, India stands out with a young, skilled workforce that remains largely untapped. Systemic barriers to accessing global job opportunities have only widened this gap.

Globio, a workforce mobility platform co-founded by Imran Banani, Avesh Banani & recently joined co-founders Yash Chamadia and Amit Bansal, is working to bridge this divide with an integrated solution that facilitates the global mobility of Indian talent.

The concept of Globio emerged during the Banani brothers’ journey with Language Fluent, a language training startup they co-founded. What initially started as a language teaching venture eventually revealed a deeper, more pressing challenge.

“I began as a Spanish trainer, which sparked my passion for languages and education,” Avesh recalled.

“But as we continued, we realised our students weren’t just learning languages for leisure—they were preparing for careers abroad, aiming for better salaries and opportunities.”

This growing realisation led the brothers to shift their focus. They discovered that language proficiency alone was not enough to facilitate international career transitions.

“Language skills didn’t guarantee placements abroad,” said Imran. “Candidates were held back by missing certifications, complex visa processes, and a lack of structured pathways to employment. That’s when we decided to address this larger, more complex problem and launched Globio in 2024.”

Tackling the global labour shortage with India’s young workforce

Globio operates at the intersection of three key macroeconomic trends:

  • Ageing populations in developed nations such as Germany (median age 47) and Japan (median age 50) are pushing labour markets to their limits, especially in sectors like healthcare, skilled trades, and technology.
  • India, with its median age of 28.4, is home to one of the youngest workforces globally.
  • Despite this, many skilled Indian professionals face barriers to accessing global job markets due to language challenges, immigration hurdles, and credentialing issues.

According to the founders, the issue is not a lack of skills among Indian workers, particularly in the blue-collar and healthcare sectors. Instead, it’s the language barriers, complex visa processes, lack of credential verification, and insufficient support in securing job placements abroad that hold them back.

“Globio is a comprehensive talent mobility platform,” Amit explained. “We provide language training, certification preparation, job matching, and relocation support—all in one seamless process.”

Nursing as the ideal entry point

Globio’s initial focus is on the nursing profession, given the acute demand in countries like Germany. Germany alone requires over 520,000 nurses by 2030 and already faces a shortage of more than 160,000. With a clear certification pathway, high global demand, and better working conditions abroad, nursing is the perfect entry point for Globio’s model.

“Nursing offers high global mobility, clear certification pathways, and guaranteed job demand,” Imran and Avesh emphasized.

The platform helps candidates not only with language training for certification exams (ranging from A1 to B2 levels) but also provides support in credential verification, interview preparation, cultural integration, visa processing, and job matching—primarily targeting healthcare roles in Germany, Italy, and Japan, starting with Germany.

Empowering nurses with a better work-life balance

Globio is revolutionising nursing careers by offering pathways to better pay and a healthier work-life balance.

  • Improved Work-Life Balance: Nurses placed in countries like Germany benefit from a standard 37.5-hour workweek, a drastic improvement over the 80-hour weeks common in India. This allows more time for personal life and reduces stress.
  • Higher Earnings: Nurses can earn up to 15 times their current salary while enjoying additional benefits like dependent visas and permanent residency options, leading to a more financially rewarding career.

Globio empowers nurses not just with career advancement but with an opportunity to enjoy a fulfilling, balanced life abroad.

Leveraging AI to enhance learning and job matching

One of the key challenges for students is mastering spoken language, which Globio is addressing through the development of an AI-powered language coach. This tool is designed to enhance engagement, personalize learning experiences, and offer real-time feedback.

Additionally, the platform is investing in automation for job matching and credential verification to streamline the entire immigration process. Globio generates revenue through recruiter payments after successful placements, and the full amount is refunded to the nurse, meaning the company does not profit in the traditional sense through the services mentioned above.

The startup is seeing rapid growth and growing demand from both students and employers.

“The response from both students and employers has been fantastic,” said Imran. “Students love the structured approach to language learning and certification preparation, and employers are excited to tap into a qualified pool of global talent.”

Expanding beyond healthcare

While healthcare is the starting point, Globio’s founders have plans to expand the platform’s offerings into engineering and technology roles in the future. The goal is to build a scalable infrastructure that will enable Indian professionals to move seamlessly across borders and industries, with a focus on high-demand sectors globally.

“Our revenue model is primarily enterprise-focused. We earn when a recruiter successfully hires a candidate,” Imran and Avesh shared, adding that the platform’s focus on matching qualified candidates with employers is the cornerstone of their business strategy.

Yash Chamadia, who recently joined the team as co-founder, shared his perspective on product development: “The platform’s ability to integrate multiple stages of the immigration journey—training, certification, placement, and relocation—gives us a unique edge in the market. We’re focused on creating a seamless, end-to-end experience for both candidates and employers.”

With the support of ISB’s I-Venture Program and the expertise of its co-founders, Globio is poised to play a key role in solving the global labour shortage while unlocking vast career opportunities for India’s skilled workforce.
