Dream11 CEO slams Tesla for refunding $1,000 fee; says, ‘Tesla is turning all its fans in India into haters’

Harsh Jain, CEO of fantasy gaming platform Dream11, publicly criticised Elon Musk’s Tesla for refunding the $1,000 reservation fee he paid in 2017 for a priority slot in anticipation of Tesla’s India launch.

In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Jain expressed disappointment over Tesla’s decision to cancel the reservation and issue a refund after nearly eight years of waiting.

“Wow @elonmusk do you know how @Tesla is turning ALL its fans and early believers in India into haters?” he wrote.

Jain had booked a Model 3 back in March 2017, hoping to be among the first in India to own a Tesla but the company now informed him that the original Model 3 in his reservation was no longer available and that it would refund the $1,000 for the time being.

Jain pointed out that had he invested that $1,000 in Tesla stock in 2017 instead, it would be worth nearly $20,000 today. “Way to show fans that @Tesla doesn’t care,” he wrote.

He later clarified that he remains a Tesla fanboy and doesn’t want the money back — just the opportunity to buy the first Tesla once it’s available in India.

“I’m a @Tesla fanboy and instead of the $1k refund, all I want is dibs on buying one whenever Tesla launches in India (and hopefully builds them in India too!)” he added.
