Listed foodtech major Swiggy has floated a new food delivery app ‘toing’ to offer economical meal options to users. The app, which is currently live in select locations in Pune, delivers meals under INR 250.

“With “toing” by Swiggy, enjoy affordable meals, honest pricing, and dependable delivery across your city,” the app description on Google Play Store reads. The company launched the app on the app marketplace on August 30 and has seen over 500 downloads since then.

Moneycontrol was the first to report the development.

The company has been doubling down on pocket-friendly meals over the past few months. In July, it launched the “99 Store” feature within the Swiggy app to offer fast food options in a range of INR 49 and INR 149. The feature was launched “to meet the needs of price-conscious users and provide affordable options to the high-frequency Gen-Z consumer”.

The company’s focus on cheaper food deliveries comes at a time when it has aggressively been hiking its platform fees for food deliveries. In September, it increased its platform fees to INR 15 per order. The company had undertaken similar price hikes earlier in July and August.

Food deliveries are expected to get more expensive after the recent changes to the GST regime. Food and quick commerce deliveries (local deliveries) will now see an imposition of 18% tax on delivery fees. The change will add about INR 2 per order for Zomato, where delivery fees average INR 11-12. Swiggy could see a higher impact of INR 2.6 per order, given its delivery fees average INR 14.5, given its delivery fees average INR 14.5.
