VC firm Peak XV Partners led a $75 Mn funding round in open-source analytics platform PostHog, which also turned the US-based startup into a unicorn.

In a blogpost, PostHog cofounder James Hawkins said the startup is entering what he called “Act 2”, focussing on making developers’ workflows smoother and more efficient.

Hawkins added that the funding will go towards expanding its tools for developers. Founded in 2020 by Hawkins and Tim Glaser, PostHog is an open-source platform that provides an all-in-one solution for product teams to analyse user behaviour, test features, and deploy new features. It offers a suite of tools, including product analytics, session replays, feature flags, A/B testing, surveys, and error tracking.

Beyond analytics, PostHog plans to help engineers automatically generate pull requests for routine issues, integrate feature tracking, and automate customer feedback.

The fundraise comes as Peak XV has been actively expanding its portfolio outside India, particularly in the US. Notable investments include MarqVision, a Los Angeles-based AI brand protection startup that raised $48 Mn in Series B in August 2022, and Hyperbound, a San Francisco-based AI sales training platform that secured $15 Mn in Series A funding in September this year.

The firm is also preparing to launch its first independent fund since splitting from Sequoia Capital in 2023. Peak XV is reportedly eyeing raising $1.2 Bn to $1.4 Bn to back early-stage startups across India and Southeast Asia, with a formal launch expected by early next year. In addition, the firm plans to make larger growth-stage investments through a separate vehicle.

Peak XV manages assets worth over $9 Bn, has backed more than 400 startups, and achieved exits worth over $1.2 Bn. Its portfolio includes unicorns like Pine Labs, CRED, Groww, Unacademy, among others.
