Tech giant Google plans on investing a total of $15 Bn (around INR 1.3 Lakh Cr) in Visakhapatnam in the next five years to build an AI data centre hub.
Google Cloud’s CEO Thomas Kurian announced the investment plan as a part of the tech giant’s global AI network spread around 12 countries. In its AI network, Google plans on establishing its largest center in Visakhapatnam.
“It is a part of a global network of AI centers in 12 different countries, but it is the largest one that we will be building anywhere in the world outside the US,” said Kurian.
The data centre is expected to have a capacity of 1 GW and is poised to become a landing station for the company’s high-capacity submarine cables, part of its Blue Raman Cable System project.
Kurian said that the AI infrastructure in Visakhapatnam will support the company’s AI-led consumer products. Apart from fulfilling the internal needs of the company, the AI data centre will also help entrepreneurs, enterprises and commercial organisations in India.
