Electronic design automation (EDA) software, a mighty part of the semiconductor supply chain, is mostly controlled by three companies from the West. The US recently blocked China and over 150 other countries from accessing certain EDA tools without obtaining special licences. How did the industry become so US-centric, and can’t China develop its own alternative software?
