Amazon Prime Video will begin incorporating limited advertisements into its movies and TV shows in India from June 17, 2025.
This change aims to support ongoing investments in content creation and expansion. The current Prime membership fee of Rs 1,499 per year will remain unchanged.
For members preferring an uninterrupted viewing experience, Amazon will offer an ad-free add-on at Rs 699 per year or Rs 129 per month, available from the same date.
This development follows Amazon’s global strategy to introduce ads on Prime Video, which commenced in early 2024 across the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada, and is expanding to countries like Brazil, Japan, and the Netherlands in 2025.
In India, Prime Video has been a significant component of Amazon’s offerings since its launch in December 2016, providing a vast library of Indian and international content, including original series and films.
The introduction of ads aligns with Amazon’s broader focus on live sports content, which offers real-time viewership and advertising opportunities. Amazon has invested around $3 billion annually in broadcasting rights for major leagues such as the NBA and NFL.
