After showing signs of recovery in the final week of August, Indian startup funding surged further in the first week of September. Twenty startups cumulatively raised $186.1 Mn in the first six days of September, a 90% jump from $98.2 Mn secured across 18 deals last week.

Key Startup Funding Highlights Of The Week

- Ecommerce startups dominated the funding trend this week, with eight startups securing $78.8 Mn. In this, Meesho competitor CityMall bagged the biggest cheque of $47 Mn.
- Short video platform Seekho’s $28 Mn funding, quick commerce startup FirstClub’s $23 Mn Series A round, and Colive’s $20 Mn fundraise were the other big ticket deals that materialised this week.
- Accel, RTP, Elevation Capital and Inflection Point Ventures were the most active investors this week, backing two startups each.
- Six startups at the seed stage raised $2.9 Mn, a decline of 64% from $8.1 Mn raised by such startups in the previous week.
Fund Updates Of The Week
- Elev8 Venture Partners marked the final close of its debut fund at $160 Mn. The VC firm intends to invest $10 Mn to $15 Mn in 12-14 growth stage startups operating across sectors like enterprise tech, fintech and healthtech.
- Venturi Partners marked the first close of its $225 Mn fund at $150 Mn. The fund will back 10 startups operating in the retail, education, healthcare and FMCG space with an average ticket size of $15 Mn to $40 Mn.
- L Catterton’s India-focussed consumer fund marked its first close at $200 Mn. It is expected to invest in 7-9 companies, with average ticket size in the range of $25 Mn to 150 Mn.
Startup IPO Updates This Week
- After getting SEBI’s nod for its IPO, Urban Company filed its RHP for INR 1,900 Cr public issue. The IPO, which will open on September 10, will value the company at $1.6 Bn at the upper end of its price band of INR 98 to INR 103.
- Besides Urban Company, boAt also received the market regulator’s approval for its IPO this week. The company had pre-filed its DRHP via the confidential route four months ago.
- Coworking space provider DevX also filed RHP this week for its IPO that will solely consist of a fresh issue of up to 2.35 Cr shares. The public offering would open on September 10.
- Supply chain solutions provider LEAP India filed its DRHP with the SEBI to raise up to INR 2,400 Cr via its IPO. Its public issue will consist of a fresh issue of up to INR 400 Cr and an offer for sale of up to INR 2,000 Cr.
- Fintech major PhonePe is set to pre-file its IPO papers via the confidential route by the end of September 2025. It is aiming to raise between $1.2 Bn and $1.5 Bn, and expects to get listed by early 2026.
M&A Activities This Week
- Ecommerce giant Amazon completed the acquisition of digital lending startup axio (formerly Capital Float) in a deal that was reportedly valued at around $200 Mn.
- Listed B2B travel tech company TBO Tek announced plans to buy US-based Classic Vacations for $125 Mn to foster its US expansion.
- Ecommerce major Flipkart bought a majority stake in Pinkvilla India to strengthen its appeal to younger audiences, especially Gen Z and millennials.
- IPO-bound PhysicsWallah (PW) picked up a 40% stake in UPSC coaching institute Sarrthi IAS at a valuation of around INR 250 Cr to bolster its presence in the UPSC preparation segment.
Other Developments Of The Week
- Ecommerce SaaS company Unicommerce plans to raise $2.3 Mn via a preferential placement of shares to its parent AceVector in its maiden fundraise after listing.
- Gaming major Nazara has terminated its deal to pick up additional stake in real money gaming startup PokerBaazi post the ban on real money games. The company was slated to pick an additional 0.96% stake in PokerBaazi for INR 15.9 Cr.
