The Andhra Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with chipmaker Nvidia to establish an AI university in the state.
Besides the AI university, the two parties will partner to train over 10,000 students in the technology and support the growth of 500 AI startups based in the state. The US-based chipmaker will also provide curriculum guidance and technical training resources to support AI education and capacity building in engineering colleges across the state.
Further, Nvidia will also assist the government in setting up new ‘AI factories’ in the state by providing insights from its global operations. These AI factories will likely focus on innovation and talent development.
“A key agreement has been signed with world-renowned Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing company NVIDIA to support the establishment of an AI University, including skill training for youth in Artificial Intelligence,” Andhra’s human resource development minister Nara Lokesh said in a post on X.

During its budget session for FY26, the Haryana government announced the establishment of an AI Mission, which proposed the setting up of AI hubs to train over 50,000 youth in the state in cutting-edge technologies.
At the national level, the central government has introduced several flagship initiatives like PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana, National Programme on AI, and FutureSkills PRIME to promote AI and digital skills.
Earlier, the Centre earmarked INR 1,000 Cr for digital skilling and future technologies, including AI, under the Digital India scheme. Also, INR 2,000 Cr under the IndiaAI Mission has been earmarked for AI research, skilling, and startups.
The development comes close on the heels of ChatGPT maker OpenAI announcing a partnership with IndiaAI Mission to set up an educational platform “OpenAI Academy” in the country. This partnership aims to impart AI skills on a national scale
